The National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS) is the leading charity dedicated to creating a world without barriers for deaf children and young people.
Do you have what it takes to help us improve support for families of deaf children from black and minority ethnic communities?
NDCS is transforming its advocacy and support services for deaf children and their families. As part of this work, we are looking to recruit a brilliant new Family Officer to provide information and support for families of deaf children, especially those from black and minority ethnic (BME) communities.
The focus of this role will be to empower families and carers of deaf children and young deaf people by providing information, advice and support enabling them to make informed choices. You will work closely with service providers to inform local provision. You will also work to ensure that families from across the different BME communities in your region have access to NDCS membership and services.
To succeed in this role you will need to have a track record of working with families in an information or advice setting and have a good understanding of the education system for children with special educational needs and/or a natural flair for family support and outreach work. You will also have experience of working with BME communities. In addition, you will need to be able to speak one or more community languages.
