Historic House Team Assistant - Internship
National Trust
Voluntary (unpaid)
Part Time
Plas Newydd, Llanfairpwll, Anglesey
About us
There’s no other organisation like the National Trust. No other organisation brings such an incredible array of places and spaces to life. We protect and open to the public over 300 historic houses and gardens and 49 industrial monuments and mills. But it doesn’t stop there. We also look after forests, woods, fens, beaches, farmland, downs, moorland, islands, archaeological remains, castles, nature reserves, villages.
About the role
If you’re keen to gain excellent work experience – and particularly if you want to build a career in heritage, conservation or tourism – this internship will get you off to a great start. Joining the staff and volunteers based at Plas Newydd, you’ll help with all aspects of the day-to-day running of the house, from leading tours of the property to creating interpretation activities to inform and inspire our visitors. Working with the House Team, you’ll help to shape our guided tour program, ensure we provide the warmest of welcomes to everyone who visits, and get hands on with our collections. You’ll also have the opportunity to develop your volunteer management skills.
In this role, you’ll work 30 hours per week, including occasional weekends.
About you
This is a highly important area of our work. To make an impact, you’ll need to be enthusiastic, friendly and well-organised. Along with excellent communication skills, you’ll be IT literate and have a good eye for detail. Ideally, you’ll have an interest in heritage or drama, and be confident talking to groups of people. And, of course, you’ll have a genuine interest in the work of the National Trust.
What is a National Trust Internship?
Our internships are volunteer roles that give you the chance to gain work experience across different areas of the National Trust. As you’ll be attached to a particular project or area of work, you’ll be able to develop your skills and experience. We’re committed to supporting the personal development of volunteers on our internships, and recognise how important work experience is to career development.
