About us

Here at National Trust, we want every one of our visitors to enjoy an experience they'll never forget. As House Manager at Canons Ashby House, the magnificent Elizabethan home of the Dryden family, you’ll make sure that we continue to offer visitors the warmest of welcomes and an imaginative, informative glimpse into the past.

About your role

Special places like Canons Ashby House have a magical power to inspire people – and so do you. An enthusiastic ambassador for this special place, you’ll take responsibility for all conservation and presentation work, making sure that the House, its grounds and collections are maintained to the highest standards. You’ll also take the lead on fire and security procedures, and organise necessary building maintenance.

As you’d expect, it takes a large, talented team to keep this special place special: you’ll manage and motivate a team of conservation assistants, room stewards and many more, plus seasonal staff and volunteers. You’ll also work closely with the Conservator, Curator and Community Learning Officer. As a key representative, living in accommodation on or near the property, you’ll be part of a rota ensuring that security, emergency and admin cover is maintained around the clock.

About you

You share our love for these unique places. An inspiring leader of people, you have a natural ability to get the best out of your team. We’d like you to have a relevant degree (or equivalent qualification) and/or proven experience of working with historic properties. You’ll also need a sound understanding of preventative conservation techniques.
