To provide support and assistance to disabled children and young people to enable them to remain in their own homes and communities and assist them to reach their full potential.

To support and assist with a child's personal care needs such as washing, dressing, bathing, managing incontinence and toileting.

To participate in the supervision of mealtimes and assist in feeding children and young people.

Assist with the manual lifting of children and the use of equipment such as hoists, electrical or manual. Following a risk assessment, to follow through advice and training given.

To contribute to ensuring the service meets the individual, physical and social and cultural needs for each child/young person.

To ensure that a child's religious, cultural and linguistic needs are respected and met.

To encourage creative leisure pursuits and supervision of children's leisure time out in the community.

To enhance a child's independence and choice wherever possible.

To follow through behaviour guidelines and approaches as advised within a multi disciplinary framework in dealing with challenging situations.

To meet the specific health care needs of children where appropriate.

Follow safe systems of work at all times in accordance with your responsibilities as an employee and Barnardo's Health & Safety and Fire Policies & Procedures. Inform the line manager of any defects in Health & Safety arrangements in the workplace or in workplace or in workplace activities, so that remedial action can be taken to prevent an accident or ill health.

To ensure child protection procedures are adhered to and practiced.

Rate per hour: £7.81 - £8.34 + 90p p/h Outer London Weighting
