Refugee Council

Who are we?

The Refugee Council is the largest charity working with asylum seekers and refugees across the UK. We employ around 300 staff and 350 volunteers. We campaign for their rights and help them to rebuild their lives in safety.

The Refugee Council is the most powerful voice countering myths and scare stories peddled by politicians and the media, we are also highly respected both in the UK and internationally, for our contributions to policy development and to challenging unjust laws.

What do we do?

We provide a lifeline to asylum seekers who arrive in the UK often traumatised and alone. From a hot meal or counselling, to English lessons or finding a job, our direct services help people throughout the UK at every stage of the asylum and settlement process.

We have long-standing experience and specialist expertise to help some of the most vulnerable arrivals, such as unaccompanied children, victims of rape or torture and people coming directly from refugee camps to resettle in the UK.

We give advice and support to asylum seekers, help them apply for support with the National Asylum Service, and help refugees rebuild their lives.

We run employment and training programmes and give careers advice to asylum seekers and refugees to enable them to use their skills and qualifications and improve their employment.

We ensure that the voices of asylum seekers and refugees are heard and their needs met, and that they can successfully build new lives in the UK.
