One of Toynbee Hall’s strategic priorities is to work more closely with our local community in Tower Hamlets and the City and to develop a strategy for the improvement of our estate and buildings. This role will aim to strengthen our local community relationships and involvement and support the Chief Executive of Toynbee Hall in the development of the estates strategy for Toynbee Hall by undertaking a range of research and community development work.
This will include:

· Undertaking stakeholder mapping exercises
· Developing and maintaining a stakeholder database of community partners
· Identifying appropriate methods of engagement and involvement for the community to find out about their needs and interests in the development of Toynbee Hall
· Carrying out community development project/s and monitoring/evaluating their impact
· Producing communication materials
· Organising events and/or field research surveys and interviews

This is an opportunity for someone passionate about the voluntary sector with a communications and marketing background and who might also have an interest in buildings and the built environment.

You will bring analytical, marketing and communications, research and organisational skills to help us as shape the future of the Toynbee Hall estate and that is rooted in effective local involvement.

We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds with a wide variety of skills, experiences and ideas.

Skills
· Some knowledge of market research, marketing and communications
· A confident communicator with excellent spoken and written English
· Research, primarily desk research
· Data entry and database experience, ideally including Excel, Access
· Analytical and problem-solving skills

Experience
· Designing and carrying out stakeholder mapping and community engagement/development projects
· Writing for a range of audiences to a high level of quality
· Volunteering or participating in other forms of social action
· Communicating with people from a range of different backgrounds

When do you need me?

The Residential Volunteer year officially runs from the first or second week in September 2010 to last week of August 2011.
You will need to be available for a number of daytime induction events in the last week of August or first week of September.
